A love letter

It's not every day that we get a love letter, so we were pretty surprised, excited and humbled when one came to us in the form of a blog post. Blanc Grenade is a Montreal based blog about food, decoration, and trends. Merci .... for the lovely feature of our work! As we get ready for the busiest time of the year, it's amazing to get so much love and appreciation!

Here are places you can find us and our ceramics in the coming weeks.

Souk@SAT Take 10

This year is the 10th edition of Souk@SAT in Montreal. For those of you who are not from Montreal, "the souk / le souk" as it's locally known,  showcases Montreal's contemporary creations. It's a 4 day event that happens at the end of November bringing together Montreals desginer/makers with a public that is excited about locally crafted design.

We are thrilled to be one of the 10 studios who were invited to create a limited edition design for the 10th anniversary of the show. As a part of this invitation, the team created a video and a blog post about each studio. Our video and interview was released early this week! there are 9 more to come and we are excited to see each one! Thank you Souk!

Likely General, Toronto

A new general store opens in Toronto today, carrying products by artists and designers who hand-make in small batches. We are thrilled to be invited by the owner, Brooke Manning, to be a part of this community. It's important for us to be represented in stores that value the maker as much as the product.

On that note, a few thoughts about shopping.  As folks who are makers we often think about the politics of what we make. Hand-making in this century underlines certain values not just about the kinds of objects we want in our lives but also about how we want to live. Being a city dweller in the twenty-first century in North America comes with a lot of subtle anxieties: all the waste we produce from all the packaging that comes with everything we consume; not knowing where something was made, by whom, and how; not knowing how far something has travelled to get to us. The frustrating reality is that often, there isn't a lot of choice of where you can shop. As we became adults, the smaller stores that used to service a neighbourhood, selling a bit of everything you need, have mostly disappeared. The good news is, in this past year we have been approached by a new generation of general stores in NYC, Toronto and Montreal about our work. This gives us the gusto to keep making, and to keep thinking about why we're making.

We send out congrats and wish the best of luck to Brooke & Likely General !
The store will be carrying our Grey/Mauve Mugs :) For more Atelier Make ceramics visit our store.

Herriott Grace visits Atelier Make

You just never know what friendships may become over time, or distance, or over a shared appreciation for beautiful things. The story of "Atelier Make for Herriott Grace" is a little like that.

This past weekend our friends from Herriott Grace graced us with their presence...along with several hundred pounds of photographic equipment. Watching Nikole Herriott and Micheal Graydon work their magic together was truly a delight.

If you've ever spent time wondering (like we do) how Nikole's styling and Micheal's photos can seem so effortless yet so considered you'd be even more amazed watching them work. Behind the scenes it feels as effortless as it does on the screen.

The little known detail about all of this is that Nikole and I were friends as teenagers, skipping class together, stealing the occasional jar pickled carrots from her mother's pantry....the kind of trouble most kids get up to!

And today that friendship has led us to sharing our appreciation for beautiful objects. With one another and with you!

Check out the pieces we design especially for Herriott Grace in her shop.
And visit Atelier Make's online boutique for more!

Thank you Nikole and Micheal!

And a thank you to Mario Pierre for being the fly on the wall extraordinare :) The lovely photos here were made by him AKA Warioda.
